Accounting Assistant

Location: Scobey, MT
Type: Full-Time
Closing Date: Open Until Closed

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reconcile daily cash receipt journals with bank deposits and credit card statements. Working with other departments as necessary to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Reconcile monthly credit card statements with bank deposits. Prepare all required entries to account for fees and discrepancies.
  • Reconcile all bank statements. Prepare all required entries to account for fees and discrepancies.
  • Assisting the organization in maintaining accounting records and destroying as needed to comply with Company record retention policies.
  • Prepare Material charge outs as reported by warehouse, contractors and technicians. Provide entries to the appropriate Plant Accountant for approval and processing.
  • Scanning all supporting documentation into the Document Vault for work orders.
  • Updating files for property insurance records.
  • Update the Smartsheet and upload backup documents as necessary.
  • Assisting with other finance & accounting duties as may be assigned from time to time, which may include but are not limited to the following: general ledger reconciliation, other accounts receivable billing, property insurance renewals, inter-company leases, bank reconciliations, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability to learn new programs quickly.
  • Accounting and bookkeeping knowledge is recommended.
  • Able to work under pressure and prioritize workloads to meet tight deadlines.
  • Able to work with frequent interruptions and still pay close attention to details.
  • Able to work under close supervision and follow standard procedures.
  • Needs pleasant disposition and telephone personality for dealing with employees and external customers, such as subscribers, vendors, software bureau and auditors.

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to the following education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would qualify.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Two year degree in Business or two years relevant experience is preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Sits at desk most of working day.
  • Stands and walks short distances in office.
  • Handles books, papers, and office equipment.
  • Must have visual accuracy to post data in small spaces.
  • Stoops and bends when using files.
  • May be required to lift and carry weights up to 25 pounds.


Special Demands

  • Overtime hours may be required.
  • Out-of-town travel may be required.
